Daliya Upma Recipe

Ingredients

  • Daliya (cracked wheat) - 1 cup
  • Mixed vegetables, finely chopped - ½ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch
  • Cashew nut - few
  • Raisins - few
  • Corn pods - ¼ cup
  • Ginger, grated - 1 TableSpoon
  • Coriander leaves - 1 TableSpoon
  • Green chili - 2
  • Oil - 1 TeaSpoon
  • Cumin seeds - ½ TeaSpoon
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Coriander powder - 1 TeaSpoon
  • Water - 2 cups

Preparation Method

  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  3. Add cashew nuts, raisins and ginger.
  4. Add daliya and roast it for 5 minutes or until brown in colour.
  5. Add all other ingredients except coriander leaves and water.
  6. Cook for 2 minutes.
  7. Add water and pressure cook for 3 whistles or 20 minutes.
  8. Take it out and cook if water is left to burn the extra water.
  9. Serve garnished with coriander leaves.
